Pete and Mathilde Jauregui built Elko’s Star Hotel at 246 Silver Street in 1910, along with investment partner Emilio Dotta. The Jaureguis operated the Star from 1910 through 1929. The Star, Elko’s solitary remaining ostatu (lodging), is still serving family-style meals to its handful of boarders, and in its dining room photographs of all her hoteleros commemorate days gone by. From Home Away from Home: A History of Basque Boardinghouses. By Jeronima Echeverria
